Aragonite
Aragonite is a carbonate mineral. It forms naturally in mollusk shells.
Origin-: The name “Aragonite” comes from the Molina de Aragon in Spain, where it was first found in 1797.
Synonym-: Aragonite, Arragon Spar, Chimborazite, Conchita, Ctypeite, Iglite, Igloite, Ktypeite, Oserskite, Pisa Carolina, Stillatitius lapis, Winniete.
Properties-:
- It is said to be a cousin of Calcite (when it is heated to a temperature of 725 F or 400 C.)
- It’s also the primary mineral that makes up the organic compound commonly known as “mother of pearl”.
- Another popular habit called flos ferri or flowers of iron”.
- Dyed to all possible colors.
Color-: Commonly white to very pale yellow, greyish, pale blue, green, pink or violet, brown or reddish,orange.
Luster-: Vitreous, transparent to translucent.
Hardness-: 3.5-4, fairly soft stone with an orthorhombic crystal structure.
Astrological Sign-: Capricorn (symbolizes power and strength).
Occurrence-: Spain, Mexico, Morocco, New Mexico, Arizona, Czechoslovakia, Turkey, Colorado (USA), France, Cambria (England), Austria, the Bahamas, Germany, Italy, Scotland, and Namibia.
Metaphysical Properties -:
- Enhances sensitivity, generosity and the ability to give as well as receive.
- Very calming and centering crystal, which can enhance and assist in meditation, as it supports a deep and serene state.
- Blue Aragonite applies directly to the lymph nodes of the throat chakra aiding the immune system.
- Place Aragonite under the pillow to protect against nightmares and sleepwalking.
- Aids calcium absorption.
Note-:
- Do not clean ultrasonically.
- Keep away from galvanic baths and all acids and brines.
- Because of its low hardness Aragonite scratches easily so be gentle on the polishing mop.
